Sokolova bearks World record

Vera Sokolova set a World record in the women’s 20kmRW at the Russian Race Walking Championships being held in Sochi. She improved Olympiada Ivanova’s 1:25.41 to 1:25:08.

Igor Yerokhin won the men’s 35km RW to become the first champion in Sochi on Saturday. He clocked 2:26.36. It’s his second win after a 2-year break. Athens silver medalist Denis Nizhegorodov finished second clocking 2:27.08. He started for the first time after a 1-year break because of an injury. Denis Strelkov was third - 2:27:52.

Anisya Kirdyapkina who was Vera’s main rival during the race finished in 1 second after the winner clocking 1:25.09. World Junior silver medalist Anna Lukyanova, 19, was third - 1:27:49.

Vladimir Kanaykin won the men’s 20kmRW clocking a World lead of 1:19.14. Segey Morozov finished second – 1:20.08. Andrey Krivov finished third - 1:20:16.
