IAAF Council Notes - Daegu, Korea - Day 1

11.04.2011

Daegu, Korea - A day after the Daegu International Marathon, IAAF Council began its work during a two-day meeting (Mon 11 / Tue 12) whose main priority will be to review and assess preparations for the next edition of the IAAF World Championships and 48th IAAF Congress, which take place in the Korean city from 24 August until 4 September.

The welcome address today (11) was made by the Mayor of Daegu Kim Bum-Il and the President of the Korean Athletics Federation Dong-Jin Oh.

The Mayor warmly welcomed the IAAF Council Members and said: “It is a great honour to welcome you to Daegu. So much has happened in the past 4 years since our bid was selected by you in Mombasa but I believe that we are almost ready. Over the next couple of days you will not only receive a presentation from our Organising Committee but will have the chance to visit facilities. In particular, I am very proud that the Athletes and Media villages have now been built – just 10 minutes from the stadium. They will offer not only a convenient and comfortable experience for the athletes but allow easy access to training facilities and will allow a physical legacy once the Championships are over. I am also happy that both the International Broadcast Centre and the Main Press Centre will be located inside the Stadium.
