World Juniors silver medalist Yator, 17, dies

Kenyan runner Albert Yator, who won the silver medal in the steeplechase at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton this past summer, died last weekend after contracting malaria. He was 17

According to an Athletics Weekly report, Yator last raced on January 8, finishing sixth on a cross-country race in Iten. Shortly thereafter he began to show signs of sickness. Last week he was admitted to a hospital, where his condition deteriorated.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of Yator’s death.
