Znamensky Memorial press conference

A press conference for the 53rd Znamensky Memorial was held in Moscow on 29 June. President of the Russian Athletics Federation Valentin Balakhnichev opened the press conference and noted that the Znamensky Memorial is one of the important meetings for athletes.

Chief Coach Valentin Maslakov said that in Zhukovsky athletes can show their readiness for the World Championships in Daegu. The meeting director Aleksandr Porkhomovskiy told that more 200 athletes from 22 countries will compete at the Znamensky Memorial. The hammer throw events as a part of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge will be the most impressive events of the meeting including current World record holder Betty Heidler (Germany) and former World record holder Tatyana Lysenko (Russia) in the lineup.

At the press conference, Tatyana Lysenko thanked the meeting organizers for holding the hammer throw competition on the main stadium and planning the finals on the evening that is perfect for results. She added, that the hammer throw sector on the Meteor Stadium in Zhukovskiy is very comfortable for throwers and the strong lineup will lead to high results even during the qualifying competition.

Russian Athletics General Secretary Mikhail Butov pointed that the Znamensky Memorial will be used for testing the organizers of the 2013 World Championships in Moscow. He added, the Russian Athletics is continuing to cooperate with Nike and Ferrero Russia (Kinder), and before the main competitions kids will compete in the IAAF Kids Athletics events.

Moscow Oblast Sports Events director Aleksey Terskiy and First Deputy Head of Zhukovskiy Stanislav Suknov assured that the Znamensky Memorial will be hold at high level.
